Norwegian Climate and Environment Minister Vidar Helgesen will visit China on the 26th-30th of June.

Norwegian Climate and Environment Minister Vidar Helgesen will visit China on the 26th - 30th of June.

Norway and China have cooperated on various environment projects since 1995, and Minister Helgesen’s resuming the dialogue and visiting China follows the normalization of the relationship between China and Norway earlier this year.

The visit will focus around three main areas. Norway has had a professional cooperation with China since 2012 regarding the setting up of a Chinese national market for trade with climate quotas, a system scheduled to be introduced this year. Secondly, there is cooperation related to China’s work on implementing its obligations under the Minamata Convention, focusing on mercury. And, thirdly, Norway assists China in restoring a national park in Szechuan, which was damaged following an earthquake a few years back.

A detailed program for the Minister’s visit has yet to be confirmed.
