Arne O. Holm says No One Can Trust the US Anymore

Donald Trump

Comment: "They have ripped us off," wailed Donald Trump, pointing to Jan Mayen, an icy islet in the Barents Sea. Together with war-ridden and dirt-poor countries, often bombed to pieces by the US, Jan Mayen represents a serious and destructive threat against the US economy, according to Donald Trump.

If the US were a patient and not the world's most powerful economy, the diagnosis would be psychopathy. The brutal abuser views oneself as a victim with full right to unleash on those close to them. In a courtroom, this would lead to lengthy prison sentences or detention.

Pathetic victims

In the US, the diagnosis is praised. It is beyond absurd to see how a majority of Americans view themselves as international losers. Like pathetic victims to "powerful" countries like Jan Mayen, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar, to mention a few.

The icy islet threatens the US economy.

Once a proud people, today, a bunch of self-appointed losers who exploit both military and trade policy measures to regain their preeminent great power position. Both democracy and humanism are sacrificed along the way.

Donald Trump has already attacked USAID, the world's most extensive international aid program for poor countries and countries that experience incidents such as natural disasters.

The new and increased tariffs will again impact the same countries and destroy any attempt to escape poverty.

In the coming days, all of this will be overshadowed by rich countries well-founded worries about the world trade. The effect of Donald Trump's protectionism and imperialism will be visible on the world's stock markets, minute by minute.

A bunch of self-proclaimed losers.

Chaos surrounds us

The chaos that surrounds us will cloak Trump's outstretched hand to Putin's war against Ukraine and the US's contribution to the annihilation of the Palestinian people.

With open eyes, American voters have said goodbye to democracy and provided Trump with near-dictatorial power. Power to replace truth with lie.

Reason has left the White House.

The example of Jan Mayen is of no significance other than as an illustration of how reason has left the White House in Washington.

No country, neither friend nor foe, can trust the US anymore.

That is the dramatic reality we are facing.
