Increased Resources for Sami Languages
- The Norwegian government will increase resources available for strengthening of the Sami language, says Minister of Local Government and Modernisation Jan Tore Sanner.
In October 2016, a committee presented a report on the position of the Sami language in Norway.
- The Government wants to strengthen the Sami language. I have decided that we, for starters, will allocate an additional 1 million Norwegian kroner to follow up the 2016 report, Minister Sanner says. – We will remain in close touch with the Sami Parliament about the follow-up and consult with them on suggested initiatives.
The resources will be used by Sametinget, the Sami Parliament, to conduct initial investigations required for following up the 2016 report.
The government has also in a recent whitepaper suggested an extra 5 million NOK allocation for Sami kindergardens.
