Presently, the only option for tourists is to fly to nearby cities such as Bodø or Tromsø, making the final leg of the journey by plane, ferry, car or bus.
According to Visit Norway, tour operators in Lofoten welcome the direct flight and believe that Wideroe's new route will make Lofoten more accessible for both Norwegian and international visitors.
Booking will be available this November, with flights commencing in April next year.
