Christin One of Few Norwegian Speakers in Reykjavik
Reykjavik, Iceland: - I like the informal tone here that makes us get a different kind of dialogue, says Christin Kristoffersen. The Mayor of Longyearbyen, Svalbard, is one of the few Norwegian speakers at this years Arctic Circle Assembly.
This morning Kristoffersen was one of the first speakers at the plenary sessions on day two of the Arctic Circle 2014, being held at the Harpa Conferencecenter.
- Its fun to be here and get to talk about how we in a local perspective orients us into the overall perspectives, she says, when High North News meets her backstage.
- I think it is very interesting to be here, she adds.
The Mayor says that she arrived in Reykjavik on Wednesday and that she has had several meetings already. There is a youth-project going on between Svalbard and Reykjavik, and Kristoffersen has also had meetings with various businesses from Greenland and Russia.
- It would of cource be nice if there were more Norwegians at the Assembly, but I am very happy that several participants from the research communities in Bodø and Tromsø are represented here, she says.
Over the weekend High North News will give a more detailed report from Kristoffersens session on Svalbard.
