Barents Summer Games 2017 receive public support
Nordland County supports the 2017 Barens Summer Games with 500,000 NOK. The games will take place in Bodø, Norway.
- This allocation will benefit youth in the Barents Region while also contributing to international exchange and interaction in sports and culture in the northern areas, County Councillor for Business Mona Fagerås of the Socialist Left Party says in a statement.
- Organising such a large sport event will contribute to strengthening the organizing competence among the sport clubs in Bodø, and will make Bodø and Nordland more visible on a larger scene, says Fagerås.
The sport cooperation of the Barents region has a 60-year long history.
Nordland sport leaders pleased
Chairman of Nordland Sports Association Reinert Aarseth is very pleased with the allocation from the Nordland County authorities.
- We are dependent on such support in order to be able to organise such a big event. The main goal is to contribute to young people aged 15-25 getting to know each other, and through that contribute to cultural, political and social exchange across borders, says Aarseth.
The event will gather approximately 1,000 youth from Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia to compete in 15 different sports in Bodø, Norway, from 1-3 September 2017.
