Will Organize Brand New Arctic Games in Greenland

In February 2025, Greenland's northernmost municipality Avannaata will host the new sports competition Avannaa Arctic Games, writes Sermitsiaq.

In this, participants from Greenland/ Kalaallit Nunaat, Nunavut and Nunavik (Canada) and Alaska (USA) will compete in 12 different disciplines. 

These are the following: One foot high kick, two foot high kick, airplane, head pull, four man carry, arm pull Alaskan high kick, kneel jump, Arsaaqqat, Eskimo stick pull, finger pull and snowsnake.

“It is natural for us to seek companionship with other countries with which we can cultivate our unique culture and history. And it is important that we develop new events that are interesting for both the locals and tourists,” says Palle Jerimiassen, Mayor of Avannaata.

The municipality will organize the competition, which will also include cultural events, in collaboration with Arctic Sport Greenland.
