US appoints first ever Ambassador-at-Large for Arctic Affairs

Dr. Mike Sfraga has been confirmed as the United States’ first-ever Ambassador-at-Large for Arctic Affairs.

Dr. Sfraga’s appointment, championed by Senator Lisa Murkowski, marks a historic step toward strengthening U.S. leadership and security in the Arctic.

That is reported by the Alaska Beacon.

Sfraga, a geologist, chairs the U.S. Arctic Research Commission, founded the Polar Institute at the Wilson Center in Washington, D.C., is a former faculty member and administrator at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, helped found the University of the Arctic and has several other Arctic-related accomplishments.
