US To Appoint Its First Arctic Ambassador
It was announced on Friday that the US Department of Defense plans to name an ambassador-at-large for the Arctic for the first time. The plan, which must be approved by the Senate, aims to further "American interests and cooperation with Allies and partners in the Arctic," said a press release from Washington.
American Senator Lisa Murkowski applauds the decision and says that the US, via the ambassador, will strengthen its dedication, commitment, and leadership to the strategically important region and have greater opportunities to influence diplomacy which is important to preserve peace in the Arctic.
The Arctic region includes areas that belong to Russia, the USA, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden.
