Dear reader. We are bombarded by security policy from east and west. The threat situation in the North changes almost daily based on the great powers' latest statements. Could it be time we reclaim control? Nevertheless, here is the latest news from the North.

Commentator Arne O. Holm offers no less than two comments on security policy. There is a lot to work with here, and as Holm says, "We have been bombarded by security policy analyses lately." 

«They all share some common traits, though. One is that Donald Trump has changed the security policy situation faster than the ink can dry on the pages of the reports”, Holm writes. 

Danish and Swedish intelligence now urges the Nordics to prepare for war.

On Wednesday, we also learned that Russia and the United States discussed possible cooperation on energy projects in the Arctic.

Russian gas 

Despite sanctions, some EU member states continue to spend more on Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) than they provide in military aid to Ukraine.

Derailment

It turns out that it was not sabotage or technical failures that contributed to the derailment of the Iron Ore Line in Northern Sweden in February 2024. 

The mayor of the Northern Swedish city Boden now says that the Swedish Government does not take the further construction of the Iron Ore Line seriously. (Norwegian only) 

Critical infrastructure 

The Norwegian Government says a new submarine fiber connection to Svalbard and Jan Mayen is urgent. 

Norway, Sweden, and Finland have established a cooperation platform to focus on transport and infrastructure in the Northern Nordic region
