The Swedish Cold Record Threatened - Close to -50 Degrees in Northern Sweden

In February 1966, the official cold record was measured in Vuoggatjålme. The weather station showed a whopping -52.6 degrees, according to SVT. Now, the record is threatened as temperatures nearly reached minus 50 degrees in Arjeplog, Northern Sweden, on Wednesday.

The cold weather is affecting Northern Sweden in many areas. Trains have been canceled, cars are not working, water pipes freeze and break, and network coverage has been out. In Älvsbyn municipality, nearly 4000 houses were left without power at -38 degrees on Thursday morning.

Kvikkjokk in Northern Sweden saw its coldest January night in 25 years with -43,6 degrees.
