Strong Resistance Toward Graphite Mine in Kiruna
In January, the Swedish Government gave the green light for a graphite mine in Kiruna, Northern Sweden.
The environmental permit for the mine was secured last fall, but the Municipality of Kiruna opposed the plans and did not want to adopt the plan for the mine construction, according to the Swedish Herald.
This led the mining company Talga to appeal to the Government, which has now decided to side with the mining company. Kiruna municipality is now forced to draw up a plan for the mining process.
This has been met with significant resistance.
The municipality has until May 16th to comply. Otherwise, the County Administrative Board will be tasked with it at the municipality's expense.
