The South Side of Sweden’s Highest Mountain Does Not Melt
This year, the annual measurement of Kebnekaise's southern peak was carried out on September 9th. The height was measured to be 2094,6 meters above sea level, the same height as at the end of summer 2021. That is reported by SVT.
Kebnekaise is Sweden's highest mountain and is located in Kiruna municipality in Swedish Lapland.
Researchers at Tarfala Research Station at Stockholm's University are, among other things, responsible for reporting data from Swedish glaciers to the World Glacier Monitoring Service in Switzerland. In the Alps, there has been reported especially large losses of mass, but the same does not apply to the southern peak of Sweden's highest mountain.
During the last two decades, however, the height of the southern peak has decreased by approximately 0.7 meters per year.
