Seaweed Project Receives Nearly NOK 3 Million
Polar Algae AS in Hammerfest, Northern Norway, receives NOK 2,82 million from the Research Council of Norway for environmentally friendly extraction of bioactive molecules from 'pig seaweed' – Ascophyllum nodosum.
"The resources in and by the ocean are crucial in reaching the government's ambitious goal for the green shift, export growth, and business and industry growth. The innovation projects which we now receive funding for will contribute in various ways to develop the future's blue industry and create jobs all over the country," says the Norwegian Minister of Trade and Industry, Bjørnar Skjæran (Labor), in a press release.
Polar Algae has started building of the process plant for drying seaweed in Hammerfest and the aim is to be ready for production within a year. The plan is to eventually offer refined seaweed-based products from Finnmark to an international market.
