Russian Extremist Wants to Rename Svalbard

Ultranationalist politician Sergei Mironov has proposed changing the name of the Norwegian archipelago Svalbard to the Pomor Islands.

Mironov says that Russia should learn from Donald Trump, who recently stated that he wanted to change the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.

The politician wants to Russify the names across the Arctic. In his opinion, the Arctic Ocean should be called the Russian Arctic Ocean, and Franz Josef Land should be called Lomonosov Land.

Mironov is the leader of the party "A Just Russia - Patriots - for Truth" and a staunch ally of Putin.
