Putin Appoints Nikolai Korchunov New Ambassador to Norway
The top Russian diplomat, Nikolai Korchunov, comes from the position of Ambassador at Large for Arctic Affairs.
That is reported by the Barents Observer.
Nikolai Korchunov (60) takes over the position from Teymuraz Ramishvili, who has been Russia's Ambassador to Norway since 2016. Korchunov has worked on Arctic matters since 2015 and comes from the position of Russia's Ambassador at Large for Arctic Affairs. He also chaired the Russian chairship of the Arctic Council.
He has visited Norway on several occasions and is a familiar face in the Norwegian foreign policy establishment. Between 2009 and 2015, he served as deputy head of the Russian delegation to NATO in Brussels. Between 1991 and 2005, he held various posts in Helsinki and Stockholm.
Korchunov's appointment was signed by Vladimir Putin on October 1st.
Korchunov's diplomatic career started in 1991 after he finished his education at the Moscow State University of Russian Relations. Throughout the years, he has held various positions in Russia and abroad.
