Norwegian Supreme Court Limits Snow Crab Case, Avoids Svalbard Treaty
On 15-17 January, the Norwegian Supreme Court Grand Chamber treats the so-called ‘snow crab case’. The Court has stated beforehand that the Court will limit its process to deciding whether or not the snow crab is a sedimentary species and following on from that, whether or not the catching of snow crab without a valid license is punishable.
This means that the Court will not decide on a general understanding of the Svalbard Treaty, according to a Supreme Court statement.
