Norwegian Skrei [Cod] Loses Sustainability Accreditation
The Norwegian codfish skrei was awarded MSC accreditation in 2010, a sign indicating that the fish comes from accredited sustainable fisheries.
However, this crucial export product has now lost its accreditation due to the migrating skrei’s mixing with territorial coast-based cod, according to Norwegian broadcaster NRK.
“Even though the consequences are uncertain as of yet, this is definitely not a good thing”, says Senior Advisor Tor Bjørklund Larsen of the Norwegian fish industry’s main association Fiskarlaget.
