The Norwegian Government Wants to Plant a Flag in the Arctic Ocean

"The international attention to the Arctic has increased. Norway's research, mapping, and activity in the High North revolves around protecting Norwegian interests, and the government therefore wants to grant NOK 10,6 million for GoNorth's polar research," says Norwegian Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Policy, Bjørnar Skjæran (Labor).

GoNorth is a consortium comprising research groups from Norwegian universities and institutions. The purpose is to explore the Arctic Ocean from the subsurface, the seabed, the water column, and sea ice through joint multidisciplinary research expeditions. The program aims to bring Norway to the forefront regarding knowledge about and for the Arctic Ocean.

The Norwegian government has granted GoNorth a total of NOK 30 million in the state budget. GoNorth also receives funds from participating institutions, grants from the Research Council of Norway, and private contributions.
