Norwegian Defense Forces Will Not Use Olavsvern Naval Base

The Norwegian defense leadership has directed its units to bring to an end everything that involves using the Olavsvern base in Tromsø for storing supplies nationally and supporting allies, according to Bladet Vesterålen.

This is based on an assessment of national supply preparedness in the region as well as the Norwegian ability to support allies conducting training, exercises, and operations in Norway, according to an internal notification.

Olavsvern is a former top-secret submarine and marine base in Ramfjord, Tromsø. The base was sold off to private owners in 2013 and currently works as a civilian supply base. Labor Mayor of Tromsø Gunnar Wilhelmsen is one of its current owners.
