Norwegian Considers Establishment on Greenland
New international airports in the cities Nuuk and Ilulissat are to be opened on Greenland and the Norwegian airline Norwegian has thus expressed an interest in establishing flights between the island and Copenhagen or Oslo. That is reported by Sermitsiaq.
"We are very interested in Greenland. If it turns out to be enough passengers to start up and operate a flight route to Greenland, we would obviously like to do that," says Andreas Hjørnholm, Norwegian's Communications Manager for the Nordic region, to the newspaper.
In the time coming, the airline will try to form a picture of travel patterns and the passenger basis for flights to the two Greenlandic cities. As of now, there is a tendency towards increasing interest in vacationing in the Nordic region and the North Atlantic area, according to Hjørnholm.
If everything goes according to plan, the new airports are to be inaugurated at the end of 2024. If Norwegian chooses to establish new routes to Greenland, it will give Air Greenland competition on price and the air travelers may have the prospect of significantly cheaper tickets.
