Norway Preserving the Nansen Legacy

A unique Norwegian € 85 million research project aiming to preserve the heritage after Nansen has recently secured substantial government funding for the project. The Nansen's Legacy project aims to survey and map the northern parts of the Barents Sea.
A unique Norwegian € 85 million research project aiming to preserve the heritage after Nansen has recently secured substantial government funding for the project. The Nansen's Legacy project aims to survey and map the northern parts of the Barents Sea.
Nansen's Legacy is a national research project with a budget frame of nearly € 85 million over six years. The Norwegian government has recently granted the project NOK 30.2 million per year (appr. € 3.2 mill.) for the next six years, with the ambition of the Norwegian Research Council matching that amount. The NRC decision will be announced in December.
- This is a tremendous initiative that allows researchers to understand the processes in the northern Barents Sea and its physical and human drivers, Project Manager and Pro-Rector for Research at the University of Tromsø, Kenneth Ruud, says to the university’s web site.
The University of Tromsø is one out of ten partners behind the project. The parties are to contribute a shared total of € 38.5 million towards the project's budget.
