The Nordic Council Passes Seabed Mining Resolution

On October 31st, the Nordic Council voted in favor of a resolution calling for a moratorium on deep-sea mining.

The vote took place in Reykjavik for the council's annual session.

That is reported by Oceans North.

Finland, Sweden, and the Kingdom of Denmark voted in favor of the resolution, while Norway and Iceland voted against it.

In January of this year, the Norwegian government decided to proceed with plans for commercial deep-sea mining, becoming one of the first countries in the world to do so.
