Nordic-Canadian Summit in Iceland

The prime ministers from the Nordic countries and the Faroe Islands, Greenland, and Åland met in Iceland on 25 and 26 June for the annual Nordic summit. The prime minister of Canada participated as a guest during the meeting.

Iceland holds the chairmanship of the Nordic Council of Ministers this year and led and organized the summit.

"It is crucial that the Nordic countries meet and discuss our common values and how we can create robust societies that meet the many challenges of our time. It is important for Nordic cooperation, and the security situation in Europe and the world makes this cooperation more important than ever," says Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.

During the meeting, the Nordic prime ministers agreed on a declaration that, among other things, provides explicit support for Ukraine's fight for freedom. The declaration also calls for more international cooperation on oceans.
