The Largest Foreign Investment of All Time in Iceland’s Cultural Field
HBO Max is filming a new season of True Detective on Iceland with a budget of nine billion Icelandic kroner (64,8 million dollars). This will be the largest foreign cultural investment on Iceland ever, writes Iceland Review.
"This is a great victory for Icelandic culture and economy, and it validates that what the government does is valuable," says the country's Minister of Culture and Business Affairs Lilja Alfreðsdóttir.
Reimbursement for production costs associated with filming movies and shows in Iceland was recently increased from 25 to 35 percent.
This fourth season of the award-winning show will be shot in Iceland over nine months. While it will be shot in Iceland, it is set in Alaska, where the detectives, played by Jodie Foster and Kali Reis, investigate the disappearance of six people from a research station.
