An environmental survey from the Norwegian Directorate of Fisheries shows that the seabed conditions underneath and around Norwegian fish farms are good and growing even better.

The Fisheries Directorate's annual survey of the environmental surveillance of seabed conditions underneath and near fish farms prove that the condition is good – in part even very good – for more than 90 percent of the fish farms.

The 2016 results prove a positive trend; the conditions are getting better and better, according to the Norwegian Directorate of Fisheries(Norwegian only.)

The monitoring around fish farms covers two zones; one so-called Facility Zone and one Transition Zone. The Directorate further stresses that the environment survey is conducted at the time when the intensity peaks.

- In that respect, this gives a better image of the actual conditions on the seabed during production, says Henrik Hareide, Head of Section at the Fisheries Directorate.

About 95 percent of the fish farms are labelled 'very good' and 'good', whereas only 0.4 percent are labelled very poor – meaning overloading and inacceptable influencing, the Directorate writes.
