Funding for New Knowledge About Whales
Nord University in Northern Norway and cooperation partners receive NOK 10 million to develop new methods to be used for collected blow tests from free-swimming whales. Historically, it has been difficult to do research on large whales and we still lack a lot of knowledge about these animals, reports the Norwegian government.
A press release reveals a need for more effective ways to study the animals' physiology and health to best manage the populations in a sustainable way. Many tests that have been done on whales have been very invasive and could lead to wounds in the whales' skin. The project is to contribute to the understanding of the health of large whale populations.
