Finland reopens two border crossing points to Russia
As of 30th November, Finland closed its entire border with Russia in response to what Finnish authorities believe is a controlled migration wave under the auspices of Russian authorities.
Now the Finnish government announces that two border crossings to Russia in the southeast, Vaalima and Niirala, will be reopened for traffic on Thursday 14 December. The decision applies until January 14th.
“We cannot tell whether things have changed for the better without lifting some restrictions. That is why, after careful consideration, we are opening two border crossing points in a controlled manner. However, we are prepared to quickly impose restrictions again. Finland will ensure its national security,” says Prime Minister Petteri Orpo (National Coalition Party).
