Film Seminar About the Gulag Prison Camps

A film seminar about the Gulag prison camps will be held at the University of Lapland in April.

The film seminar focuses on political persecution and prison camps in the Soviet Union. Kanerva Cederström, the state-awarded director of Cinematography, whose two films will be shown at the event, will participate in the seminar.

The seminar, which is open to everyone, will be held on Saturday, April 22.

Gulag prison camps claimed the lives of millions of people. During the repression, thousands of Finns who moved to Soviet Karelia were executed or deported to Siberia or other distant regions.

"The seminar will discuss films about Gulag prison camps as carriers of historical memory and presenters of historical events", Mari Mäkiranta describes.
