Faroese diplomatic representation in Washington D.C. is underway

“Bjørn Kunoy is appointed as the first Head of Representation of the Faroese Islands to the United States. The Representation is based in Washington D.C,” writes the Faroese government on Twitter on Monday.

Kunoy previously served as Head of Representation in Moscow from 2015 to 2018.

The Faroe Islands' plans to establish a diplomatic representation in Washington D.C. were launched in the winter of 2023. "Building a strong relationship with the United States is a key priority," stated the Faroese government and pointed to steady growth in trade between the countries.

In 2020 the Faroe Islands and the US signed a Partnership Declaration, which provides a framework for increased bilateral cooperation in areas such as trade, business and industry, sustainable energy, research, education and culture.
