Faroe Islands Watering Out Its Sanctions Act
The Faroese parliament Lagtinget has decided to give the Minister for Foreign Affairs authority to sanction Russia, however, if the sanctions concern the fisheries cooperation and exports, the parliament – Lagtinget – is to approve first, Sermitsiaq reports.
That is a sign that there is no genuine desire to sanction Russia, the opposition argues.
The new Faroese Sanctions Act is adopted today, however, between the first and second rounds or processing, an amendment was introduced saying that if the sanctions are to extend to the fisheries cooperation or export to Russia, separate law proposals should be made and they should be processed at Lagtinget.
The amendment passed in the second processing round.
