Experts Sound the Alarm On Norway's Air Defense Preparedness

Norway does not have an air defense that can stop missiles that Russia is using in Ukraine. The combat air bases with the billion aircraft F-35 can be put out of action in the event of a war.

"We have holes. Especially against ballistic missiles, but also in regard to smaller threats," says Battalion Commander Stina Negaard Nilsen on Evenes to the National Defense Magazine - Norway.

The Armed Forces wants a more long-range air defense and believes that it is important to get that in place quickly.

The war in Ukraine has highlighted shortcoming in the Norwegian Armed Forces in a worst-case scenario where there is a war with Russia.

Previously, Norway has had short, medium, and long-range air defense. Now, the medium-range system Nasams is what is defending the Evenes fighter base, among other things.

That is where the Norwegian preparedness against Russian aircraft is located.

Nilsen also says that the crew on the mountaintop above Evenes can feel it up there. They cannot handle the entire threat.
