Danish Defense Intelligence: Russia Will See Strengthening of Thule Base as a Threat

Russia will consider any new military capacity in Greenland or the Faroe Islands as aimed against itself, according to a new risk assessment report from the Danish Military Intelligence Services published Monday. KNR reports this.

The Danish military intelligence service argues that Russia is “very focused on American activity in Greenland and wants to counter US influence. Russia will consider any new military capacity in Greenland or the Faroe Islands a threat against itself”, the report reads.

However, the report also points out that there will most likely be a difference in how Russian eyes perceive various military measures. A radar in the Faroe Islands to monitor airspace is most likely regarded milder than any upgrade of the American presence in Greenland, the services’ report states.
