Controversial Danish Arctic Ambassador Resigns

Tobias Elling Rehfeldt resigns as Arctic Ambassador for the Kingdom of Denmark.

The appointment of Rehfeldt in 2023 was controversial and was the start of a long-standing dispute over the post between Denmark and Greenland, reports Sermitsiaq.

The Greenland government, Naalakkersuisut, has been clear that the Arctic Ambassador should be appointed by Greenland as it is the only part of the kingdom located in the Arctic.

Naalakkersuisut and the Danish government now agree that Greenland will choose the Arctic Ambassador. The Faroe Islands and Denmark will then approve the nomination.
