Dear reader. Although it is considered unlikely that Russia will go to war with NATO, we who live in the north should be prepared, says researchers. We continue to follow Russia's circumvention of the economic sanctions. Here is the latest news from the High North.

We keep following the development of ship traffic in the Arctic. The lates observation is of a massive container ship the length of three football fields travelling up the Norwegian coastline en route to China. 

Because despite sanctions, large quantities of Russian gas are still transported along the coast of northern Norway. Holm calls it a predicted disaster. (Norwegian only) 

Training for war 

For the first time, US Air Force fighter jets and German Eurofighter jets have proved their ability to use European highways as runways. 

Recently, authorities, academia and industry from Europe and North America met in northern Norway to test how modern positioning technology responds to jamming and spoofing attacks. (Norwegian only) 

And the Russian navy has started exercise Ocean 24, resulting in increased activity from both the Northern Fleet and the Baltic Fleet in the Arctic.

Yours truly, together with a group from the Norwegian press, had a short chat with the outgoing Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, who was at his last official meeting in Norway as NATO chief. 

“In the last ten years, the world has become more dangerous and more unpredictable”, says outgoing Secretary General of NATO, the 65-year old stated. (Norwegian only) 

Not that green 

The green shift is not going well. Now the Swedish battery manufacturer Northvolt is reporting layoffs and the closure of parts of the factory in northern Sweden. (Norwegian only)
