Allocates NOK 2 Billion to Offshore Wind Farm Project in Northern Norway
Enova allocates NOK 2 billion to a new project that will deliver renewable energy to the Hammerfest region in Northern Norway via the Goliat platform in the Barents Sea. Norwegian government agency Enova allocates a whopping NOK 2 billion to a new floating offshore wind farm project in the Barents Sea. The project will deliver renewable energy to the Hammerfest region via the Goliat oil platform.
Enova wants to contribute to intensifying the technological development within floating offshore wind and has now decided on a major allocation to a new project in Finnmark, Northern Norway. That was revealed in a press release on Friday.
The government agency allocates up to NOK 2 billion in support of the floating offshore wind project, which will deliver renewable energy to the Hammerfest region in Northern Norway via the Goliat oil platform in the Barents Sea.
Seven actors delivered project proposals for the program "Competition for support for small-scale floating offshore wind projects," which Enova assessed.
"Project proposals at a very high level have been delivered, which also bodes well for later calls for proposals. Floating offshore wind technology represents an exciting opportunity to take further steps toward a low-emission society. In that regard, it is good to see that there is knowledge, capacity, and engagement in moving the technology development in the country," says CEO of Enova, Nils Kristian Nakstad.
"Exciting things are happening in the field of offshore wind, and the government wants to facilitate for floating offshore wind to become a new leg for the Norwegian supplier industry to stand on. GoliatVIND is a project which also can contribute to developing the continental shelf, while also strengthening the power system on land. More about the allocation
The tenderers in the competition had to commit to a submitted progress plan that requires project commissioning within five years. Enova must be kept informed continuously about the project's progress and reporting for the support payment.
GoliatVIND was ranked at the top of the competition and will receive up to NOK 2 billion in support for a floating offshore wind project. The project will deliver renewable electricity to the Hammerfest region via the Goliat platform in the Barents Sea.
The Goliat platform is already electrified from shore.
GoliatVIND is owned and supported by three partners: Odfjell Oceanwind, Source Galileo, and Kansai Electric Power Company.
According to the plan, an output of 75 MW will be installed in the offshore wind farm, distributed among five turbines of 15 MW each.
Annual energy production is estimated to be 320 GWh. This corresponds to the energy consumption of approximately 12,000 households in Norway.
