Agreement between Denmark and Greenland about Arctic Capacities
Greenland and Denmark have formally agreed on the principles of the Arctic capacity package, the Danish MoD reports. Danish Defense Minister Morten Bødskov and Greenland’s Naalakkersuisoq for Foreign Issues, Business and Trade Vivian Motzfeldt yesterday signed an agreement about this.
The agreement means initiation of measures to be introduced in Greenland following a political agreement about capacities in the Arctic. It encompasses a total of DKK 1.5 billion.
A military education program is to be established in Kangerlussuq, Greenlanders are to have more opportunities to participate in the defense of Greenland, high-tech capacities for surveillance are to be acquired, and there will be more presence in and around Greenland.
The countries will also look into how the Danish defense may use Air Greenland planes outside of the frameworks of the package.
